First off, a little basic history on Bill Simmons for those that aren't familiar with him.
Before he was "The Sports Guy" he was known as "The Boston Sports Guy" on a website (Read his stuff and you'll quickly see he is STILL "The Boston Sports Guy). He pioneered sports blogging. He was funny, topical, original, and very Boston-team biased as his name would imply, so it was sickening sometimes to anyone not from Boston, but he did his stories as the voice of the fan before it was popular and was funny doing it.
He moved to L.A. in 2002 to work as a writer for the Jimmy Kimmel Show, then left the show to work for ESPN full time, but stayed in L.A.
He is now a sad shadow of what he used to be. He is the biggest homer for all that is Boston, that reading his material is actually sickening, even if you don't hate the Boston teams. He is a hypocrite and such an apologist for the Patriots that you would think they were paying him. He has such a big head now, that he trashes the sports bloggers that do the exact same thing that he started out doing, and calls anyone that reads the posts on those websites like Deadspin losers. What a colossal hypocrite.
Bill Simmons was once funny, but he has now dried up and sold out. He always seemed a bit smug and arrogant, but since he has made it to the big stage, he has gone into the stratosphere with his ego, and in the toilet in his writing.
His writing is so bad now, that he has let his wife write in his B.S. Report. Believe me, no article was more aptly named. When I am reading his picks on the football games, it is bad enough that I have to hear him cry about how the Patriots were hosed by the refs (even though they won the game), but I also have to read about his wife's opinions and insight into Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's relationship and he lets her make the picks with him.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
His knowledge on football is almost nonexistent, so it was no surprise that she actually beat him in picking games for the season. His little stunt backfired and exposed how little he really knew about football.
I also don't go to ESPN to read articles about how much his wife Kari hates Michael Rapaport. These are the reasons I have stopped reading his stuff. I always kept hoping he would find his originality again, which used to make the slog through the Red Sox, Patriot, and Celtic love fests worthwhile.
Read his stuff, especially his early stuff, and listen to his podcasts. You'll see how he has declined horrendously and become so egotistical, arrogant, and such a hypocrite that it is unreal. He has blasted City after City. He thinks that Miami, New Orleans, and San Diego are the only locations fit for a Super Bowl and blasted Jacksonville and Houston as locations that were pathetic for a Super Bowl.
He has become a bigger joke than the ones he put in his stories back in his blogging days. Too bad he isn't a funny joke, just a sad and pathetic one.
